Was talking to a co-worker of mine today, Kevin, and he said that we had a work ethic but what about a play ethic.  He was hitting on me a little cause he rode his motorcycle to Flagler Beach yesterday, sat near the beach…hooked up his I-phone to his Mac and played around and ….well, worked some.  He was really playing but tried hard to convince me he was working….near the beach.  Cool.  He knew that  I was taking a Kayak trip Friday with one of my daughters, my brother and one sister.  SR 40 to Gore’s Landing.  So we tossed around how important it is to work… but also to play or….rest.

So, I was thinking about … ethic…or time away from work…. and I thought about Exodus 20:8….one of those darned commandments.  The 4th one.  New Kings James says to keep the sabbath holy.  Sort of starchy all alone.   But when you drill down a little and sort of stretch this thing with The Message,…..Commandment 4 is wanting us to sort of rest and honor God…

Now, there is a lot of scripture about us now, after Christ, not having to worry about which day is the sabbath and that day being the worship God day…nother blog on that one day…. but I got to thinking about me, Frank, Becky, Emily and then what Kevin, my co-worker said about work and play ethic…. and I realized this was…well, scriptural.  Kayaking…riding a scooter to Flagler Beach or whatever you to do relax… is scriptural.  Especially when you want to honor God.

You have a hobby… then do it.. but honor God with it.  You have something you like to do…. then honor God with it.  Take a day of rest.  Worship God on that day and unhook.  Then get back to work…. remember,  it said one day….We get the weekend.
