So, the nation of Israel was in Egypt for a little over 400 years.  This was captivity.  This was slavery.  This was oppression.  This was prison.  This was empire building.  And, of course, anytime you build an empire, you have to protect it.  So, Pharaoh was making them work harder and harder and harder because they just kept multiplying.  This cat made them do more and more with less and less…This was,..well, hell on earth.

So Moses, at a ripe old age of about 80 comes back (he was there but then he left after capping a guy) and leads them out of Egypt, across the Red Sea, out into the desert, to the big mountain, Sinai, to get the 10 Commandments, then out in the dirt some more,…then to the promised land,…well, just east of it.  Another river to cross and all.  But, in about 40 years, he got them right there, and at least really close but for sure,…out of Egypt.

You see, Egypt = bad.  Abram/Abraham went back there (didn’t do so bad there), Isaac was going to but didn’t, Joseph was thrown into a hole and sold as a slave and went back there involuntarily courtesy of his brothers (he worked it out with God there), and Jacob went back there at God’s direction.   God  has a way of making things good when they are bad…..He sort of makes lemonade out of lemons sort of stuff.

But overall, Egypt = bad.  The scriptures mention that as a dog returns to its vomit, a fool returns to its folly. Old and New Testament.   And it seems that folks in the bible just like us today, have a way of returning to our vomit.  Now, I don’t know about you but ….well, I have some Egypt’s in my life.  Some stuff that I will, well, tend to want to return to…..captivity/prison sort of stuff…

Just think for a minute….where is your Egypt?  God wants you out of there!
