Almost all of us work out in some form or fashion.  Many of us go to the gym or do some sort of work out routine all the time.  So, is working out, staying in shape Godly?….  Sure… The scriptures say that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.  So, keeping your body in good shape is Godly…right?  Absolutely.

In 1 Timothy 4:8 Paul was talking to his young helper Timothy and telling him that physical training is of some value but godliness has value all things and that godliness holds promise for both this life and the life to come.   See, Paul has figured out that there is this life and there is the life to come.  There is the earth and there is the Kingdom.  There is the here and now and there is the hereafter.  Paul is telling Timothy, and wanting Timothy to teach the early church, that keeping your body has merit, but that living a godly life has merit for both here and in the Kingdom.

So, why not get two for one?  Have your body in shape but live a godly life so that you can influence those around you.  So that they can influence those around them….and so on.  Work out….in body and spirit.
